12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 11

And today's theme is... Christmas tree/presents.

I went with Christmas trees. I was going to use tape, but it was easier for me to freehand so my lines aren't completely straight, but I figure neither are Christmas trees. ;o)

I used three coats of Santa's Underpants (a white crelly with different sized red and green hexes, and larger white squares) from Two Birds One Store for the background, and one coat of Zoya Holly topped by three coats of Mistletoe Kisses with Prancer and Vixen (a dark green jelly with white hexes and red microglitter), also from Two Birds One Store. For the silver "star" on top of each, I fished out silver hexes from Are You Glistenin'? from Sephora by OPI.

Santa's Underpants went on great - the glitter is evenly dispersed in the polish and I did no fishing and very little placing. Mistletoe kisses is slightly thicker, but still manageable. The glitter is also well dispersed, but I had to do a little more placing of the hexes just because there are not as many as in Santa's Underpants. Both are from the Reindeer Gone Wild! collection, and both polishes are great. Santa's Underpants is still available in the store, so you can still get your hands on it.

I hope you like my attempt at trees, and check out the nail art from the other participants too!

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 10

Hi everyone.

I know I missed a day in the challenge. Day 9 was supposed to be a gradient mani, but unfortunately we had a wake to go to so I didn't get a chance to do that mani. :-(

But the theme for today is inspired by a Christmas carol/song, and this is my attempt at a Jingle Bells manicure.

Originally  I wanted to do Silver Bells since that is probably my favorite Christmas song, but I don't have a silver polish that would work. (I know I know, I need to rectify that.) For the background I used two coats of ManGlaze Nawsome Sauce. The bells are OPI Sand on your own Feet, with black acrylic used to make the open parts of the bells. And the ribbon is Zoya Elisa. I need to work on painting bows. :o\

So, that is my Christmas carol mani. Check out the other Christmas song manis from the participants in the links below.

The Liebster Award

I am very excited that Trendy Tips nominated me for a Liebster Award! It is an award for up and coming bloggers with less than 200 followers and I am honored to be considered. :o)

**Here are the details on receiving this award**

  1. Each person must post 11 random things about themselves.
  2. Answer the questions that the nominator set for you, plus create 11 questions for the people you nominate to answer.
  3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post
  4. Go to their page and tell them.
  5. No tag backs!
So, first things first, 11 random things about me:
  1. My husband and I have two pet chinchillas, Gandalf and Silva, that we adopted from a rescue.
  2. I do some origami and have a box of cranes I have folded.
  3. When was little I played baseball on a boy's league and not softball.
  4. I like to knit and have made hats, scarves and baby blankets.
  5. I didn't learn to drive and get my license until I was 20.
  6. I had a horseback riding accident when I was 16 and didn't get to finish Junior year in school.
  7. I really want to take a trip on the Orient Express.
  8. I wanted to be a Forensic Psychologist after watching the show "Profiler."
  9. I have 4 tattoos. Or 7 depending on how you look at them.
  10. My DH and I got married wearing medieval costumes in Las Vegas.
  11. I have used vodka to make perfume from a scented oil I got.
And now for Trendy Tips' questions.

1. What is your favorite nail polish?
Wow. I have so many I don't know if I can really pick a favorite. Ummm... Zoya Rekha, butter LONDON Disco Biscuit, 365 Days of Color Funfetti, Pahlish Pianos Filled with Flames and Slow Fade of Love are probably my top 5, but I love so many...

2. Do you/did you ever play sports? If so, which ones?
Hehe, I actually listed two of them above. I played baseball, soccer, bowling, I was on two swim teams and I used to ride horseback.

3. Name your favorite singer/band.
I like so many it is hard to say. I listen to music a lot, and genre depends on my mood or if I learned about a new artist. Lately I have been listening to Florence and the Machine and Enya the most.
4. What are your hobbies besides nails?
Knitting, origami, cooking, baking, reading, and I occasionally make jewelry.

5. What is your favorite book? (or author)
The author I have read the most is Nora Roberts. I think the book I have read most often is Redwall by Brian Jacques, both as a child and an adult, so I guess that would be my fave.

6. What is one accessory you cannot live without?
Hair ties. Definitely need hair ties.

7. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I like telling people about new polishes or techniques I have tried, and hopefully it inspires others to try new things too. When someone told me I inspired her to try to stop biting her nails and make them pretty it was really cool.

8. Do you know another language? (besides your native language, that is)
I took Spanish for about 10 or 12 years in school, and then I took Italian in college. Unfortunately I am not fluent in either of them, but I would like to really learn Italian someday.

9. What is the last movie you went to see? Was it good?
I don't really like going to the movies. I get too distracted by everyone else around me. The last one I remember going to the movie theater to see is the last Harry Potter, and I am glad I saw that on the big screen.

10. Favorite Christmas tradition? (if you celebrate it)
My DH is Jewish, so we celebrate Chrismukah and are kind of making our own traditions as we go. My favorite part is probably when I put out the ceramic Christmas tree that was my grandmothers and lighting it.

11. Do you have pets? (yes, I know I stole this question from Sarah, but I really liked it; pictures make it better!! :)
Yup. We have the two chinchillas. We used to have another chinchilla named Smeagol and a hamster named Chip, but they went over the rainbow bridge. :'o(

But enough about me, now my questions for you!
1. What inspired you to start blogging?
2. What hobbies and interests do you have?
3. What is your favorite food and why?
4. What is your most precious belonging? How did it become so special?
5. What do you think has been your greatest achievement/made you the most proud?
6. If you could relive one moment in your life, what would it be and why?
7. Do you have any pets? (Yeah, I like the pet question. ;o) )
8. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and with who?
9. If you would only listen to one album ever again, what album would it be?
10. What is your favorite piece of nail art (or any other art if you're not a lacquerhead) that you have done?
11. What is the funniest/craziest thing that ever happened to you?

And now for the bloggers I nominate! :o) (Unfortunately I haven't come up with all 11 yet...)

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 8

The theme for today is Inspired by a Holiday Book/Character. My favorite Christmas book is also my favorite movie - Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! I still watch the 1964 stop motion animation version every year. I mean, it's a classic!

Here are Rudolph and three of his fellow reindeer, based on a reindeer tutorial from  nuthin' but a nail thing.

For the base I used F4 Polish's Rockettes over SH White On. The reindeer are Revlon Hot for Chocolate, their eyes are White On and Zoya Raven. Raven is also the other reindeer's noses, and Zoya Nidhi is Rudolph's shiny nose!

I hope you got a kick out of my Rudolph mani. :o)  Check out the other character manis from the other participants:

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 7

I was excited for today's theme - Candy Cane! One of the first water marble tutorials I watched was from Colette at My Simple Little Pleasures, and it was her candy cane water marble tutorial. I hadn't tried water marbling yet, and I just thought that was so freakin cool and knew I would have to try it for Christmas. Now, I know day 6's theme was water marbling, but I couldn't resist doing it for this too. And now you have my candy cane mani!

And while I usually am not a fan of "claw" pics, at least not mine, I had to take one to get my thumb in too.

I am really loving how this came out. I tried striping water marbles before and, well, there are reasons they never made it into a blog post, but tonight I got it just how I wanted.

And now for the deets. For something different (and to add some sparkle) I used a Sinful Colors silver glitter, Queen of Beauty, as my base. Unfortunately the photos didn't really pick it up, but you can see some of the sparkle through the red. That is Zoya Elisa, and the white is Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On. And as usual I topped it with a layer of HK Girl, but for some reason it is not as glossy as usual. I am ok with that though. :o)

Have you ever tried any candy cane manicures? Check out the blogs below to see theirs too, and feel free to jump in and participate!

Catch you all later.

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 6

Today's theme is water marble. Which I usually don't mind. It took some time but I think I got a pretty decent marble most of the time. My problem this time was the colors. I didn't want to do just red and green or red and white/green and white, so I used a-england Holy Grail (original version) instead of white. The red is Zoya Rekha and the green is Zoya Holly.
I don't know why, but I just couldn't get the colors to show as I wanted them to. My ring finger and pinky have the usual white base I use with most water marbles. I thought the gold was showing too yellow, so I used a coat of Holy Grail under the marble. The gold shows darker, but... I just don't love it. Which is sad, because these are probably the neatest marble designs I have ever gotten. *shrugs* What can you do?

Leave a comment to let me know what you think of this marble. And go check out the blogs of the other participants in the links below!

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 5

Today's theme is Snow/Snowflakes. So I went with some freehand snowflakes.
I used a base of NYC's quick dry Pier 17, and then I went over that with a coat of Zoya Kotori to add some sparkle. For the snowflakes, I first drew them on with white acrylic paint (after my attempts with a white striper were horrible) and then I went over them with a silver glitter striper. I topped it off with a coat of HK Girl but I wasn't loving the way it looked with the glossy topcoat, so I went over it with a coat of butter LONDON Matte Finish topcoat for something a little different. Sometimes I like the way it shows the color of a glittery polish. What do you think of the matting glitter polishes, have you ever tried it?

Leave a comment and let me know what you think of my snowflakes. :o) And check out the other challenge participants in the blog links below!

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 4

I got a kick out of today's theme. I had a little trouble narrowing down what I wanted to do though. My original plan was something from my most favorite Christmas movie, but I decided to use that idea a little down the road. Instead, I bring you something from another movie I love - A Charlie Brown Christmas. Behold, Chuck's tree!

Unfortunately it did not come out quite as good as I hoped, and I forgot to put the blue blanket around the bottom, but I think you still get the idea. For the background (and my other nails) I used CabrĂ³n from ManGlaze. It is described as a dark purple, but I find it to be a lot more blue, but whatever. I like it A LOT, and I think it was a great night sky color. To add some "stars" I used one coat of Festival of Lights from Amy's Nail Boutique, which has blue and silver holo micro glitter and is another polish I am loving. For the snow I used white acrylic paint, and then went over that with Rockettes, a white crelly with iridescent and holo glitters, from F4 Polish. I used Santorum (another from ManGlaze) for the tree base, tan acrylic for the tree trunk, and Zoya's Holly for the needles and Elisa for the ornament.

Like I said, I didn't get my little tree quite how I wanted it, but I love it anyway. And considering the story of that movie, it seems fitting that I didn't get it "perfect." :o)

I hope you like it, and feel free to check out the blogs in the links below so you can see their challenge manis too! And, you are more than welcome to join in.

Have a good one all!

NOTD - V Gap Mani

Tonight I did my manicure for my holiday party tomorrow. I knew I wanted to use gray/silver and purple, and I wanted to do something different from a regular french mani, so he hubby pointed to a photo in the Google search and said "Do that." So I did my first ever V gap.

I used two coats of butter LONDON Dodgy Barnett as the base. It is a little on the thin side, but the opacity was good at two coats. It is a holographic silver-gray, and I am liking it a bit more than CC Harp On It just because it is so much more sparkly. After that dried completely (unlike my tape mani from yesterday) I taped off my Vs and used a slightly thick coat of Zoya Suri. And after some minor touch ups I used a coat of HK Girl to top it off.

I know I didn't use colors most people would for a holiday party, but sometimes I like to be different. Have any of you done manis for a holiday party? Feel free to share what you did for yours. :o)

Ciao for now!

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 3

Aaaand today's theme for Plump and Polished's challenge is, a tape mani. I have done a couple of these before, but with this one I learned an important lesson - make sure the bottom coats are completely dry. Silly me thought they were, but they weren't, and when I lifted the tape it pulled at some of the polish. Doh! I still think they didn't come out too bad though.
Being that me and DH celebrate Chrismukah (I was raised Catholic and he was raised Jewish so we blended the holidays), I decided to use Chanukah colors for this one. The base is CC Holo Hues Harp On It, and the blue stripes are Dollish Polish's It's Bigger on the Inside. One day I will manage to get a great pic of the holo aspect of the silver, it just wasn't meant to be with this mani. You can see the holo a little, but you really need to see this in person to get the full Holy Holo Batman! effect.

Now that I got some striping tape (and you have NO idea how excited I was about that!) I think I can go a little more detailed with my next tape mani. And if you have any tips, pleeeeease let me know, and you can check out the other participants tape manis in the links to their blogs below!

TTFN all!

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 2

I had a lot of fun with today's theme. Penguins! How could I not have fun with that? I like the way they came out a lot, and I think they're pretty freakin cute. Whatdya think?
I kept thinking of the penguin from the classic "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" named Popper. So I made my penguins pop out from all over. :o)

For the base I used Donner and Blitzen's Snow Prints from Two Birds One Store, and it was part of the  Reindeer Gone Wild! collection. It is a very pale blue almost white jelly/crelly with small and medium white hex glitters, blue square micro glitter, light blue medium hexes and some shimmer. I loved it when I first saw it and I think it is a perfect winter color with the hexes like snow. I used three coats, and since there is still a little VNL I think I will use a colored base next time. Application was great, the glitter is evenly distributed so I didn't have to go fishing, and it leveled nicely so one coat of HK Girl was all I needed on top.

And now for the penguins! They were actually easier than I thought they would be. I used CG Liquid Leather for their bodies, white acrylic for their bellies and eyes, and Zoya Jancyn for their beaks, then I put another coat of HK Girl on top.

I hope you like my penguins, and you can check out the other bloggers' penguins in the links below. :o)

12 Days of Christmas Challenge - Day 1

Hello everybody! I know I have been slacking a lot lately, but now that I am doing another nail art challenge I will be back to posting at least a couple of times a week! I know, I know, you're all really excited about that right? Lol.

Enough joking around! Before I post my red and green mani I need to wish my hubby a very happy birthday!

So, Plump and Polished's 12 Days of Christmas challenge begins today, and the theme is red and green only. I don't know why, but the fact that I could only use the two colors was making it rather hard for me to come up with an idea of what to do. But after scrolling through soooo many photos, I found my inspiration here. And now, what you have all been waiting for, the manicure!
Yup, I went with a checkerboard pattern. I never did one of these before, and I kind of like how it came out. I used Zoya's Elisa and Holly, and then BL matte topcoat over Elisa. Since I wanted to keep the red matte I did not use a top coat over the whole mani but that probably would have evened out the lines a little for me. Oh well, I like it though! The shiny vs. the matte makes it a little different. I would really like to get my hands on some striping tape before I do another checkerboard so I could make the boxes smaller. Regular tape does not always play well with me.
There you have it folks, my mani for day 1 of the challenge. If you would like to join (and you really should do it just for fun) the rest of the themes are:

But, if you don't want to join you can always check out the designs from the other participants in the links below.

Now I need to go celebrate DH's birthday, so I will see you all later. :-)
