Polishing Off Pancreatic Cancer

This post is about a cause much more important to me than nail polish, but polishes will feature shortly.

Three years ago, we lost my aunt to pancreatic cancer. It all happened so quickly, and she passed on less than three months after she was diagnosed. Unfortunately it seems that most cases are like that. The symptoms are so "quiet" that by the time the diagnosis is made the cancer is already in an advanced stage, and oftentimes when there are symptoms they're attributed to other illnesses. According to the Lustgarten Foundation's website, "Pancreatic cancer has no early warning signs, and there are no effective screening tests" and "In the United States, cancer of the pancreas is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women." Considering that, I don't understand why I don't hear much about fundraising for pancreatic cancer research. That is why I support the Lustgarten Foundation, and I am participating in the Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk on October 14th. But I need your help.

Since I do not usually get many donations, I have decided to hold a fundraiser raffle - "Polishing Off PC." I was amazed and encouraged by the support the polish community showed in another raffle a while back. It inspired me to ask for your support as well. So here I am.

Now for the not so good stuff - The rules.

Polishing Off PC is open from now through 12am EST on October 14th. Since the walk is that morning, I am not sure I can accept donations on my website beyond then. I am going to double check that, so if I learn something different I may be able to extend the raffle.

This is open to residents of the US and Canada only. I cannot ship the prizes to other locations at this time. (I am seeing what I can do to change that so stay tuned!)

All donations for the raffle must be made on my donation page on the Long Island Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk website. 100% of your donation goes to the Lustgarten Foundation. (If you have trouble with the link to my donation page please let me know.)

Each dollar donated will count as 1 raffle "ticket," and as there is a $5.00 minimum donation on the site you will have at least 5 chances. Please feel free to donate more than that; the more you donate the more chances you have.

In the dedication section, please be sure to select your name for "Recognition From," and please check off "Yes, I would like to show my donation amount scrolling." That is really important since it is how I will getting the information to keep track of everyone's "tickets." The prize winners will be chosen based on that information with Random.org, and the names of the winners will be announced on my blog.

Now for the good stuff (maybe even the really good stuff?) - The Prizes. ***The order of prizes has changed. please see Here***

So that is the story of Polishing Off PC. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave me comments with them. If you make a donation, thank you and good luck! Even if you can't make a donation, you can still help. Please tell as many people as you can about this, and ask them to let their friends/family/colleagues know, and so on. Any help to get the word out is greatly appreciated! And, if anyone is interested in donating prizes, please email me at lifetimesandlacquersoflilmoon@gmail.com.

My sincerest thanks for whatever help anyone can give!

A candle, with... monkey farts and reindeer poop?!?

Yup. A Black Flame Candle with Monkey Farts and Reindeer Poop. Bet you never would have imagined hearing that sentence. ;o)

Today's delivery was nail mail from 365 Days of Color. This was my third order from Sunny, and I love everything I have gotten so far. Black Flame Candle is a polish from her Halloween collection, Hocus Pocus. It is a black jelly with shimmers that flash different colors when they catch the light. Other than the bottle shot I couldn't really capture the colors; you really need to see it shimmer in person to get the full effect. Like with all of the jelly polishes I have tried I initially had a bit of streaking, but by three coats the color evened out

Pointer and middle fingers are two coats of Black Flame Candle over one coat of Zoya Raven, and ring and pinky are three coats with no undies. All  have one coat of HK Girl Fast Drying and Super Shiny Clear Top Coat (I'll tell you how much I love that top coat another time.) The photo shows more of a difference between undies and commando than is seen in real life in artificial light. The coat of Raven underneath just deepens the black a bit and keeps from having a visible nail line. I really don't see much of a VNL under three coats.

As for the rest of my haul, we have Monkey Farts and Reindeer Poop cuticle oils. Monkey Farts reminds me of suntan lotion and banana Laffy Taffy; it screams Summer to me. I really can't describe the scent of Reindeer Poop (other than it makes me think OMG Christmas!) so this is the description from 365 Days of Color's Facebook page "Reindeer Poop begins with top notes of apples and pears; followed by middle notes of eucalyptus, pine, and geranium; and well-balanced with base notes of vanilla, cedarwood, and patchouli." Yeah, like I said, Christmas.

These oils are 5mL, and come as part of a three bottle sampler pack. You can choose your scents (and there are A LOT to choose from) or you can let Sunny decide. I ordered Green Apple, Pumpkin and Lime in my first sampler pack, and I use them all the time. I think the oils are incredibly handy - the roller ball applicator makes it easy to apply and keeps the mess to a minimum. These are great to have on hand, especially as the weather is starting to turn cooler and my skin gets drier.

I highly recommend visiting 365 Days of Color. The cuticle oils and balms are awesome, and take a look at the rest of the Hocus Pocus collection as well as her other polishes. Funfetti is on my list of all time faves. Here is the store, you should go check it out.

So, who else has tried 365 Days of Color, and what did you think about what you got?

(The items reviewed here were paid for by me, and all opinions are my own.)

Let the frankening begin!

Woo hoo! My custom Franken Starter Kit from Girly Bits (http://girlybits.bigcartel.com) came today. Oh, I have been waiting for this! The kit comes with 3 bottles of suspension base, 1 empty bottle, and 9(!) different solvent resistant glitters that YOU get to choose. I mean how awesome is that? If you want to make yourself a custom color using the correct materials, this is the best way that I know of. I mean, just think of the possibilities with this:
Okay, I couldn't narrow it down to 9, so I got 12 instead. And I have an idea for a color that has been bouncing around in my head for weeks, so now that I have some supplies I can't wait to try it out and see if it is a combo that will work as a polish.

But that is for tomorrow or this weekend. Right now I am really excited about the possibilities, and I will let you know how it goes once I start mixing. Until then, everyone have a great day/night!

Nail Mail! and What's on your nails Wednesday

Yay, I love nail mail. Today I received a bottle of Dollish Polish's elusive Spectral Pup. It is the first I managed to snag from the This is Halloween collection (found here http://dollishpolish.bigcartel.com/category/this-is-halloween-collection), but I am still stalking the shop and working on getting some more. And as much as I would love to swatch this glow in the dark lovely, I am saving it for a prize in an upcoming fundraising raffle (more on that coming soon), so I can't swatch for you. But if I manage to snag another...  I can post a bottle shot though. I tried to get a good picture of it glowing, but that did not work out.

And now for what I can share. I didn't get a chance to do anything for Try it on Tuesday, so I still have my First Day of Fall mani. I sponged OPI Sand on Your Own Feet, and Zoya Carrieann, Kalista and Meg over Zoya Coraline in random patterns.

I know the photos are not the best, and I had a bit of trouble with clean up, but I'm trying. (And of course as I write that I hear Yoda in my head, “No. Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.” Anyways…) The photo on the left is outside in indirect sunlight, and the one on the right was taken inside.

I was going for a changing leaves vibe, how do you think I did? Leave a comment to let me know your thoughts, and let me know what's on your nails for Wednesday.  :o)

Okay, I have no idea what I am doing

Seriously, I really don't have any idea what I am doing with this yet. I am new to blogging, and just working my way along and figuring this out. Hopefully soon I will get this all worked out and have something worth reading. Probably about nail polish and nail art, and maybe cooking. At least those are things I am familiar with, but hey, who knows? Until then, just bear with me.  Thanks for visiting while I get my feet wet, and if you have any pointers please feel free to let me know! :o)
